A Factor-Graph-Based Approach to Vehicle Sideslip Angle Estimation

چکیده
Sideslip angle is an important variable for understanding and monitoring vehicle dynamics but it lacks inexpensive method direct measurement. Therefore, typically estimated from inertial other proprioceptive sensors onboard using filtering methods the family of Kalman Filter. As a novel alternative, this work proposes modelling problem directly as graphical model (factor graph), which can then be optimized variety methods, such whole dataset batch optimization offline processing or fixed-lag smoother on-line operation. Experimental results on real datasets validate proposal with good agreement between actual sideslip angle, showing similar performance than state-of-the-art great potential future extensions due to flexible mathematical framework.

Vehicle Sideslip Angle Estimation Using Two Single-antenna Gps Receivers
Knowing vehicle sideslip angle accurately is critical for active safety systems such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC). Vehicle sideslip angle can be measured through optical speed sensors, or dual-antenna GPS. These measurement systems are costly (~$5k to $100k), which prohibits wide adoption of such systems. This paper demonstrates that the vehicle sideslip angle can be estimated in real-...
متن کاملSideslip Angle Estimation Based on GPS and Magnetometer Measurements
This paper proposes a cost-effective method to estimate the vehicle sideslip angle on various frictional surfaces on banked roads. This paper demonstrates that the vehicle sideslip can be estimated by combining measurements of Global Positioning System (GPS), Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), and a magnetometer in the Kalman filter framework. Among all the measurements, the magnetometer is the m...

A recursive least square RLS algorithm for estimation of vehicle sideslip angle and road friction coefficient is proposed. The algorithm uses the information from sensors onboard vehicle and control inputs from the control logic and is intended to provide the essential information for active safety systems such as active steering, direct yaw moment control, or their combination. Based on a simp...

This paper demonstrates a method for obtaining estimates of key vehicle states using the Global Positioning System (GPS) and Inertial Navigation System (INS) sensor measurements. A Kalman filter integrates the INS sensors with GPS to provide high update estimates of the sensor biases, heading, and vehicle velocities, which can be used to calculate the vehicle slip angle. Since the INS sensors a...

Control systems that help the driver avoid accidents, or limit the damage in case of an accident, have become ubiquitous in modern passenger cars. For example, new cars typically have an anti-lock braking system (ABS), which prevents the wheels from locking during hard braking, and they often have an electronic stability control system (ESC), which stabilizes the lateral motion of the vehicle t...
